Police were called at 2 p.m. Sunday to Yonge and Richmond for a two-vehicle crash where one car ended up on its side, toppling into a group of pedestrians near the Sunset Grill on the southwest corner of the intersection.

“One car was pushed off the roadway and struck a number of pedestrians,” said Const. David Hopkinson.

Eight people, including two children and the driver of the flipped car, were taken to hospital.

Two of the victims, reportedly brothers, were critically injured and rushed to local trauma centres via emergency run.

One of the two victims in life-threatening condition was reportedly a 16-year-old male.

Traffic Services Det. Scott Matthew said both drivers were travelling west on Richmond St. when the crash occurred.

Police and witnesses say one car apparently turned into the other’s lane and made contact, putting a grey Kia SUV onto its side and into a group of pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Toronto fire crews had to extricate the driver of the flipped car before transporting him to hospital.

The intersection remains closed as TPS traffic investigators conduct their probe.
