Juventus eye Man United’s Anthony Martial as alternative to £70m transfer Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic

Juventus are eyeing a pair of surprise Premier League candidates as back-up options should they fail to win the race for Fiorentina’s highly-rated striker Dusan Vlahovic.

The 21-year-old is quickly becoming one of football’s hottest properties as he continues to find the net in Italy, following up a 21-goal league campaign last season with eight goals already this term.

The Serbian is drawing interest from Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Tottenham, but Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly leading the race as they attempt to fill the Cristiano Ronaldo shaped goal-scoring hole in their line-up.

Vlahovic’s contract in Tuscany expires in 2023 and the striker has reportedly refused a new deal, with Fiorentina looking to sell before the start of next season or risk losing him for free.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano writes the club want €70/€80m to let the forward go in January, and Juventus are already lining up replacements should they be beaten to the signing by an English side.

One of the names on Juve’s shortlist, according to reports in Italy is Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, with Max Allegri’s side rekindling their long-held interest in the Frenchman.

Martial joined United from Monaco for £58m in 2015, but has failed to nail down a regular spot in the line-up due to injury and form.

The 25-year-old had his best season in the 2019/20 campaign with 23 goals in 48 games in all competitions, but last season he endured his worst campaign, only making seven appearances.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defended the forward during the last transfer window saying: “I wouldn’t be surprised if other teams targeted Anthony because he is a very good player.

“I have no plans whatsoever for him to play against us. Anthony has come back strong and hungry, with the determination to prove his fitness and his quality.

“Last season was a difficult and disappointing one for him and you can see that little bit of grit between his teeth again.”

Alongside Martial, Italian outlet calciomercato claims Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette is on Juventus’ list of plan-B options, along with Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, PSG’s Mauro Icardi, Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca and Pisa’s Lorenzo Lucca.
