Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu created history after winning Miss Universe 2021 title on Monday, December 13, 2021. The 21-year-old has won the coveted pageant at the 70th edition in Eilat, Israel.
She is the third Indian who won Miss Universe 2021 title after Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.
Harnaaz beat Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane.
During the final round, the top three finalists were asked what advice she would give to young women on how to deal with the pressure they face today.
Sandhu replied, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. This is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourselves because you are the leader of your life, you are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that’s why I am standing here today.”
Her reply to the question received thunderous applause from the people present in the venue in Eilat, Israel.
Indian model who hails from Chandigarh is pursuing her master’s degree in public administration. She was crowned by her predecessor and Miss Universe 2020, Andrea
Meza of Mexico.
Apart from winning the Miss Universe title, Harnaaz had also won some pageantry as a teenager like Miss Chandigarh 2017 and Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018.
