Ole Gunnar Solskjaer goodbye after Manchester United sack labelled ‘embarrassing’, Chelsea didn’t allow ‘bigger legend’ Frank Lampard to do the same

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s emotional interview following his Manchester United sacking has been labelled ’embarrassing’.

The Norwegian was given permission by the club to give a goodbye after being sacked following a 4-1 loss to Watford.

Towards the end of the chat, Solskjaer became emotional when talking about his admiration for his former assistant and now temporary boss Michael Carrick.

The club’s former midfielder has taken charge of the first team and will hope to get off to the perfect start in the Champions League against Villarreal a game you can hear live on talkSPORT 2.

It was a surprising decision from the club to allow the 48-year-old to have one final interview.

Whilst sympathetic over the Norwegian losing his job, talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara wasn’t impressed and pointed to the fact that Chelsea didn’t do the same when Frank Lampard was dismissed in January.

“No one wants to see someone lose their job,” O’Hara said.

“He’s a good a guy and you want to see people do well, he was out of his depth.

“But come on, what’s that [the interview], what are they doing? I mean you don’t see Chelsea doing this with Frank Lampard.

“Frank Lampard is a way bigger legend at the football club than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is at Manchester United.

“You don’t see Frank Lampard when he got the sack Chelsea giving him an interview and talking about him being a club legend, its embarrassing.

“Chelsea got rid of Frank Lampard, brought in [Thomas] Tuchel, won the Champions League, statement, we’re moving on, thanks Frank, we’re moving on.

“What is this? You’ve just sacked him [Solskjaer], he’s not been good enough, Manchester United are miles off it, he’s paid to do a job to get the best out of the team and he hasn’t done it.”

Despite O’Hara’s point, talkSPORT host Laura Woods felt the opposite and thought it was a nice touch.

She added: “I thought it was quite a classy move from Manchester United to let him do this interview and I though it was big of Ole to sit down.

“He detailed the things he was proud of, he said the unbeaten away run, he was very proud of that, the Champions League win at PSG as well.

“He thinks the character and pride he reinstalled there and perhaps rebuilding that squad as well getting them to a good place.”
