Police arrest man in Twizel in relation to shooting in Palmerston North

A 28-year-old Manawatū man was arrested in the small Mackenzie district town of Twizel on Saturday afternoon in relation to a shooting in Palmerston North earlier this month.

The shooting took place at a two-storey house on Coventry St in the suburb of Highbury on November 2, leaving a man in a critical condition with a gunshot wound, reportedly to the head.

The man, who had a warrant for his arrest, will appear in Timaru District Court on Monday on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, a police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said police were still seeking another man in relation to the matter and enquires are ongoing, but did not have any information as to whether the other man is thought to be in South Canterbury as well.
